2006 Grand Banks 39 Eastbay SX
If you have ever been aboard an Eastbay 39 on a day when most boats are tied at the dock, you will know why this C. Raymond Hunt design with "Deep V" hull has earned its reputation as one of the best “sea hulls” on the market. Rarely, can a boat achieve both “beauty and brawn” as “Stars and Stripes” has done. Beauty, I’d say so; flag blue gel coat hull, varnished toe rail, and teak cockpit. Upon entering the boat you can not help but notice the upgraded high gloss teak interior accented by a teak and holly floor, white bulkheads, tasteful beige cushions and twin Stidd helm seats.
Brawn, “Stars and Stripes” has that also. Upgraded Caterpillar 455 hp C7 engines, 9 kw Onan gen set, a/c heat, bow thruster, five bladed props... If you have been looking for a boat from a quality builder in the under 42 ft range, and have only found the run of the mill boats out there, please schedule an appointment today to see “Stars and Stripes” while currently winter stored inside in CT. Presently, this Eastbay 39 is the only one available on the East Coast.

The highest quality fiberglass fabrics are expertly hand laid and laminated with resins selected for their ability to resist blistering. The 39 Eastbay SX is solid fiberglass below the waterline, with topsides that are cored above the boot stripe using Herex® cross-linked closed-cell foam to prevent water intrusion. This coring is vacuum-bagged into place to optimize strength and weight savings. A system of heavy-duty stringers is molded of fiberglass and bonded to the hull for added strength and rigidity.
The proven, highly-acclaimed Eastbay hull, a modified deep-V designed by the renowned naval architects at Ray Hunt Associates, is no exception. Many subtle features contribute to the superior ride of an Eastbay hull, starting with a sharp entry that keeps pounding to a minimum, with a forefoot designed to prevent bow steering and broaching. A high chine forward and spray strips knock down spray, add lift, and reduce the wetted surface – keeping the boat dry while providing greater speed and fuel economy. Widely- flared forward topsides create buoyancy and reduce the potential for burying the bow in heavy seas.
The deep-V shape puts more and more hull into the water during a roll, forcing it back upright to minimize rolling and provide greater stability. The shape also allows the hull to bank into a turn, not roll outward like other hull forms, for better handling and comfort.
That V-shape is carried all the way to the transom, making for a safer platform that travels straight over seas with moderate steering effort.
Based on the success of fellow Eastbay Series models, the new 39 combines more great design with an outstanding ride. With its Hunt Associates designed modified-V, the 39SX enters a new strata of performance and comfort while maintaining the classic good looks inherent in all Grand Banks yachts. Introduced in 1994, the 38 Eastbay has been a steady performer, with over 130 hulls delivered around the world. Whether cruising to Alaska or through the Baltic Sea, our 38 owners have broken all expectations of seaworthiness. Now, with the 39SX, owners will cruise in the comfort of an enclosed salon and a reconfigured cabin arrangement designed to maximize space.
