It is with personal regret but warm wishes that I announce the retirement of our broker George Middleton, effective March 15. George’s leaving marks the end of a 48-year career in the marine business. George started his career in the publishing world working for Sailing World, Cruising World and Showboats International before becoming a yacht broker in 2005.
George often had to be asked about his sailing resume since he never volunteered to speak of his sailing accomplishments. A veteran of four Bermuda Races, two Trans-Atlantics and three SORCs by the time he was 24 years old. George continued his passion for sailing doing numerous New York Yacht Club regattas as tactician, navigator or helmsman. Understandably, he became our “go to” guy when we needed some insight into offshore racing or sailing. A member of the New York Yacht Club since 1971, George held various committee positions amongst them House Committee at Harbor Court shortly after its purchase by the NYYC and most recently is seated on the Library Committee at the NY clubhouse. His vision and commitment to the boating community has been great.
George plans on spending most of his time on the Eastern Shore of Maryland as you may have guessed, close to the water.
